Artefact 6

My last artefact was a full flash restaurant website with an interactive online booking form, which was created using all of the collected information from my last artefact that the consumers had provided.

I wanted my last artefact to prove that the younger audience like using the online booking form and signing up with online promotions and newsletters. However on the other hand also prove that majority of the older audience prefer using a simple online booking form without any gadgets or flashy promotions.
From my previous artefacts I knew that the consumers liked a short and simple booking form that processed their data without problems. So I made sure my that booking form matched the consumer needs.

What they thought?
The booking form was tested with 16 people with a mixed age group. I was surprised yet again to see that the both groups liked the booking form and the way it was arrange. They also liked the fact that this booking form appealed to a mixed audience with it non nonsense flashy banners on the actual page.
They all liked the simplicity, colour variation and the way everything had its own section.

However yet again majority of the younger target audience clicked on the dummy promotional add.

The older audience thought the banners would have made the site cheap and tacky and was totally unnecessary. In addition, one of the people MAYUR said; “If you’re in a rush in the morning and you need to head off to work and want to book a table but the restaurant is not open. You would normally decide to book it online instead. However you don’t want to be filling out pages or reading useless information. When you can simply fill out 5 sections and get the job done and your tables booked for the evening. ”

After the testing’s I asked the consumers whether they thought some of the highly reputable restaurants had their very own prime target audience for the online booking forms, such as ASK, CHIQUITOS and PIZZA HUT;

Vikesh

“Yeah they can do, I guess if a site has a promotion, or looks really impressive I’d be more likely to contact the company or even sign up. It also makes them look more professional and approachable.”

Anisha
“Actually yeah like at our fresher’s fair and they had the spin the wheel game that got u free vouchers and information about the newsletters and freebies for chiquitos, which you had to sign up online. I guess it was about the reservation promotions.”

Arti
“I would say that they do have a target audience because they appeal to like the late teens and early 20's. I have personally never used the ASK or Chiquitos booking form s I thought it was aimed at younger audience, due to their student promotions they have often.”

Artefact 5 - Part 2

Interview Questions

• How was the functionality of the Online Booking Form? (Was it easier to navigate and did it take up more time than a standard booking form?)
• What did you think of the Flash ad banners? (Did they tempt you to click onto them?)
• Did you feel confident filling out the form? (Handing out personal details?)
• This online booking form was created, for one purpose ‘Simplicity’, did you feel that whilst fill out the form?
• Any improvements that you can recommend on the online booking form functionality and layout?

Feedback

The ‘Online Booking Form’ was tested out by ten people from different backgrounds.
Everyone said that the booking form was simple and easy to navigate with a straight forward step by step process. In which, the customers did not have to hand out their phone numbers as it was (Optional) made them feel confident filing out the rest of the form. The fact that some company’s ask for a phone number and then constantly keep texting them, which everyone finds/found annoying.

They found the online booking form less time consuming. The maximum time someone took to fill out the data and click on ‘Send’ was no more than 3 minutes.

The feedback I had received about the flash ad banners was very mixed, as majority of the younger audience (being students) did not mind the flashy banners and the older audience did. The older audience disliked the flicker/flashing lights of the banner, as they found it annoying and pointless. Also they said it was very distracting when they filled out the form. However on the other hand younger audience (students) did not mind the flashy banners and in fact they all clicked onto the ‘Ad’.

When I asked them why afterwards and their reasons for it?
They all replied saying, that the online freebies and the flashing images of the ‘Ad’ was very influential and if this was a real online booking form they would have signed up by now for the freebies, newsletters and any other promotional activity.

Finally, other than the flashy banners, everyone stated that the online booking form was very good, simple and straight forward and that some of the companies out there should think about narrowing down their forms.

Client Project - What I gained...

From the ‘Client Project’ I have gained valuable experience in which I have learnt fine, professional skills whilst working with the client. Furthermore it has made me a much more of a confident person with a positive attitude. Not only it has improved my ‘Multimedia’ skills and knowledge it has helped me organise myself better as a freelancer and changed the way I think overall when approaching a website. Additionally I aim to take all of this expertise on board for future freelance work with private clienteles.

Client Project - Final Website

After creating all of the final contents of the design, the website linked up really well and produced a lively atmosphere within the site. The music track fitted in well with the background lighting, which turned out to be effective. Most importantly, I was pleased to see that all of the client’s requirements were fulfilled to a professional manner. However the work I did was more than I expected, due to the final changes I had to make within the design. Even with this barrier looming over me, I managed to finish the website on time, without any major problems occurring. I was not able to upload the website live, as the client is still yet unsure whether he wants the current domain name, www.bar-sirius.com or to buy a new domain name under, www.bar-sirius.co.uk.

Artefact 5 Part 1

This online booking form was created using 'FLASH and Dreamweaver (PHP)'. The aim of this artefact research was to see weather the flashy elements influenced customers. i.e did they feel save using it, did it look modern to them and what type of a booking form did they prefer overall.

This time I didn't just show it to the restaurant managers, but also to the staff.

PIZZA HUT reply: They were more interested on how the booking form worked and opened up in a new window, rather than the design concept itself. The staff at Pizza Hut liked the sophistication of the form and its simplicity. As it was a much shorter booking form than a standard one. Which they thought would save time and effort filling in. In addition they all preferred using a booking form , where they gave out less personal details. Rather than using a long booking form (previous one) and relying on their online security measures.

FEAST of INDIA reply: The manager disliked the Flash slideshow, as he thought having a moving image on a booking form page, would distract the customers and was unecessary.
However some of the staff members liked it as it bought a dynamic view towards the booking form and made it look updated.
Additionally they liked the way the booking form opened up as a overlapping link (Lightbox Effect), which they thought was clever, due to the way it seperated from the content.
The staff were pleased about the functionality due to it being simple and straight to the point without any extra widgets. i.e (entering their full details and giving out unecessary information).

Client Project - Tweeks

In the next few days I need to;

  • Link all the web pages together.
  • Make sure the online magazine is fully working and functional and has a link to the web home page.
  • Go back and REVIEW the 'Bar Sirius' logo...
  • Check the MP3 music track is fully working with the sound volume.
  • Update the Gallery page.
  • Test it

Client Project - Bar Sirius Magazine

The design looks simple and works well with the bar website. However I think I need to add a link, that would take the user back to the bar home page. As this online magazine opens up as a new web page.

The purpose of the magazine is to show the audience the types of events previously held at ‘Bar Sirius’ and the type of guests that have performed live. Hopefully this would increase the number of audience at the bar and on the online ‘Facebook’ group. I deicided to create the magazine in ‘Adobe Flash’ using the codes from my previous projects.

Client Project - Gallery, News, Drinks Menu & Contact Pages

Gallery Page

News Page - Links to 'Online Magazine' and 'Facebook'

Drinks Menu Page

Contact Us Page

I am quite happy with the layout and the design and importantly the client seems happy too. However he did mention to me to go back and revise the LOGO. Which I will do towards the end of the client project, as I'll have a more clear idea on what the final element will look like.

Client Project - Online Links - Facebook?

I found it hard to find a 'PINK' Facebook icon, that was a good quality. So I decided to get an orignal logo and edit the colour variation in FLash...by changing the brightness, contrast, using alpha...!

The link would directly go to the 'Bar Sirius' Facebook home page, where it would share all the information in depth.

Client Project - Background Music

For the background music, I decided to choose the 'Swedish Mafia ft Pharell Williams - One (Your Name)'
track as it is funky and a very recent, popular music track that would appeal to the wide audience (students) and the type of music they listen to.

I had few problems uploading the background music as the music file was too big and for some reason it would not read the data. Therefore I decided to trim the music track using 'Real Player' and lower the quality of the music track to around 2mb.
