'Shimla Pinks' current website

This is the current 'Shimla Pinks' website that is runniing in Leicester!

As you can see it has poor navigation

The website it actually squashed all onto one side and leaving alot of space on the right!

Has no FLASH
or Javascript!

Too much
writing... especially on the menu page!

The colour variation looks out of date!

Design idea 5

I decided to add more chillies and corriander to the design, because they the main ingredients along with the spices... in an indian restuarant!

Design idea 4

I tried to create a restaurant kitchen type of atmosphere with this design. This design looks very clean and modern!

Shimla Pinks - Official logo design

This is my final 'Shimla Pinks' design! I decided to make it look like a peeling off sticker, because I wanted the website pages to look like a kitchen display (atmosphere).

Design Idea 2 - Logo and Layout!

Design Idea 1 - Logo and Layout!

Retail Establishment Website!

Brief:

Choose a real life local example of a trading retail establishment….restaurant, clothes shop, music venue, bar, dry cleaners, clock shop pawnbrokers.. whatever…
Must be a currently active establishment.
Does not have to have a current website operating.
Research then design and build a xhtml/css website to WC3 standards in 14 days!

Chosen website: 'Shimla Pinks' (indian restaurant) http://www.shimla-pinks.com/index.html

Reason: All the 'Shimla Pinks' restaurant websites are modern and updated, APART from the Leicester restaurant. Which looks boring, old and very out of placed!!!
Each website they've produced has been different from one another and each has a different colour scheme, navigation etc.
I think this website will able me to show off my skills and knowledge and do it the way I want to without worrying whether it will fit in with the rest of the 'Shimla Pinks' websites. In addition due to me living in Leicester myself and having been to the restaurant, I would have more understanding of the place and the atmosphere. As well as what sort of audience would be looking at the site.

Aim:
My aim is to create a simple, sophisticated and modern looking Indian cuisine website. I am mainly going to focus on the layout and how everything is placed, due to the current website being very out of placed. I am going to start off looking at different types of Indian cuisine websites and take into account how they've interpreted the colour variations, type, space etc...

NON Web Design Practioner 3

Banksy is a well known graffiti artist from Bristol. However his identity is still unknown.

I like his work due to the way the graffiti is done to make the image look dynamic and real. Not only that all of his work has a meaning behind it. I like the way he uses stencils and spray paints to create a lively atmosphere in his work.
In the future I want to create images like 'Bansky' and add effects to it using photoshop! I have never done this before so it would be a new challenge for me and someting new that I can co-operate with Multimedia Design.

NON Web Design Practioner 2

David Carson is an American graphic designer. He is best known for his innovative magazine design and use of experimental typography.

I like the way David Carson uses type and overlaps it! He mainly concentrates on typography design rather than, whether a person can see or read it properly! His work had influenced me on my recent website project.

In my future projects I will be looking at 'David Carson' work more closely, because his type work can influence me more and give me more ideas on my website designs and layouts.

NON Web Design Practioner 1

Neville Brody is a 'Graphic' designer whos known for his work on 'The Face' magazine and 'Arena' magazine.

His work has inspired me for many years, due to my passion for design and illustration. I like most of his typography work due to it being very dynamic, unusal and compelling.
The way he uses colour and space in his work has influenced me on my work. Sometimes he spaces work out very unusually, that it influences me to transform that onto my practice. I do this because I want my work to look different and I want to use my graphic design skills and knowledge on my web design work!

Waterfall and Whirlpool software development

The ‘waterfall’ model has been around for many years and at the early stages of the software development it was recognised as the main model for many systems. In addition the solution offered steps by providing requirements early. I.e. Every stage is approached, completed and signed off before moving onto the next step.
However this model was also made with the intension of being able to ‘Freeze’. Subsequently this allowed anyone to stop the process and move onto the next one. The advantage of this model was that it allowed you to manage it with control but was hard to go back if you had to make any drastic changes.

The ‘Whirlpool’ model has a much better system than the ‘Waterfall’ model due to allowing changes over and over again. As a result this holds no restrictions when it comes to the process which allows a more in-depth approach allowing such problems as expense and errors being notified before action are approached. Also it allows you to work on more than one section at a time and has no problems if you went back and made changes.
I would use the ‘Whirlpool’ if I was to produce a website due to the flexibility it occurs. I.e. it would allow me to go back on designs and change them as building blocks, providing a more in-depth approach. Also it would provide me with the option of working on one stage at a time.
